Elder Maharshi Vedavyasa, wrote Mahabharatha at the behest of Lord Krishna. This great epic has 84,000 verses which are divided into 18 sections called 'parva'. The first five sections are known as the "Purane" meaning ancient and the 16 others are called the 'Upa Purane' meaning latter or next. The puranas or ancient stories were handed down orally generation after generation before they were written down in one compilation by Vedavyasa. We hope these introductions give you some ideas for blogging posts! Remember to include your citation in MLA format after each introduction if applicable. You can then link back to your MLA or APA page from within your blog post. Glossary – a list of words and phrases used in a text. Sometimes a glossary is called a vocabulary list. Form – the written form of a language, such as the alphabet, the rules for spelling, and any grammar or punctuation marks that are included in the text. Language – a set of words used by an individual, group, society etc. In most cases this refers to specific language as opposed to dialects which are different variations on one language spoken by many people. For example 'French' is French as spoken in France but 'Cajun' is Cajun as spoken in Louisiana. Dialect – a variant of a language spoken by a small group of people from a common region. Languages from different regions can also be considered as dialects. For example, standard American English spoken in the southern U.S. is a dialect of American English as spoken all over the country. Citation – written information about where you found information that you used for your research paper or project. Usually includes the author, title or source of information, and other related facts about where you found your facts. Citations are usually located at the end of a research paper and look like this: (author, date). Primary Source – first hand information; something that is actually happening rather than a retelling of that event. If you are researching current news, then the article found online is probably your primary source. If you are researching past events then a written account may be a primary source. For example, in a research project on the Titanic, a newspaper article from 1912 would be a primary source while an article from today would not be because it was not written at the time of the event itself. Secondary Source – second hand or written account of an event or idea. In order to use this type of information in your research project it must contain credible evidence and proof for its claims e.g. an excerpt from the book 'The Titanic' by Walter Lord. Primary Source Example: Secondary Source Example: Author – a person who writes a work of non-fiction or fiction. The author usually provides a brief biography or a short statement about the writing of the book. Publisher – typically an organization, business, or individual responsible for publishing a book, magazine, etc. When you read an article in an online magazine that gives credit to the publisher at the end. For example: "Written by Jordan Jones and published by PublicizeIt Publishing." Clicking on this link will take you directly to the homepage of PublicizeIt Publishing where more information is available about their policies and statements on certain topics. cfa1e77820
